Volunteer Coordinator – Job Description

End Sexual Violence NL Inc. (ESVNL) is a non-profit, community-based, charitable organization that supports individuals of all genders impacted by sexual violence. We operate from a feminist, pro-choice, trauma-informed, person-centered perspective where individuals with lived experience are honoured for their unique strengths, needs, skills, and abilities.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator at ESVNL Inc. is responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to provide trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, survivor-centered support to individuals impacted by sexual violence via our 24 Hour Crisis, Support, and Information Line (CSIL). This role involves developing and facilitating comprehensive training curriculum, conducting training sessions, and maintaining up-to-date volunteer resources and policies. The coordinator collaborates closely with the Executive Director to align the volunteer program with organizational goals, evaluate its effectiveness, and report on progress. Additionally, the coordinator actively promotes inclusivity and diversity, organizes volunteer appreciation events, and assists with funding proposals to support program sustainability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Recruitment, Training, and Coordination
- Actively recruit volunteers for our 24 Hour Crisis, Support, and Information Line
- Coordinate and facilitate ESVNL’s 55+ hour Volunteer Training three times per year
- Coordinate volunteer scheduling to ensure 24-hour coverage
- Schedule and provide support for volunteers, including individual and group debriefs
Program Evaluation and Reporting
- Review and update the Volunteer Program training curriculum and professional development needs after each training cycle.
- Prepare periodic reports, financial statements, and records on program activities, progress, and status for the Executive Director and funders.
- Review program outcomes and make recommendations about program goals and objectives.
- Review and update volunteer resource manuals, protocols, and policies to meet the evolving needs of those accessing our line and the volunteers
Community Engagement
Promote the ESV NL Volunteer Program and CSIL to stakeholders throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Encourage inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility by conducting purposeful focused outreach.
Support Sexual Violence Awareness Week activities
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Job Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in relevant fields such as Social Work, Social Science, Community Development, Gender Studies, or demonstrated equivalent in experience
- Relevant experience in the areas of program development, volunteer coordination and/or community development
- Fluency in English
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Subject matter expertise in the area of sexual violence and gender-based violence.
- Deep understanding of trauma-informed practices and how to apply them
- Understanding of anti-racist, anti-oppressive practices and frameworks
- Knowledge of best practices in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
- Excellent organization skills and people management experience
- Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and protocols
- Ability to develop and deliver comprehensive training programs
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge and experience in data management and program evaluation
- Familiarity with creating and updating policies and protocols.
- Understanding of community engagement and outreach strategies and experience in public presentations
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, including diplomacy, empathy, negotiation, and a commitment to building and fostering relationships.
- Knowledge of and facility in using relevant software applications, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Zoom
LOCATION, TRAVEL, AND WORK ARRANGEMENTS
ESVNL maintains a flexible, hybrid work environment, with the requirement to work in the St. John’s office on a regular basis.
Work hours are generally 8:30am to 4pm, with significant evening and weekend availability required during volunteer training.
Compensation and Benefits
The position is $60,000 annually. Benefits include health and dental insurance coverage, a generous and flexible leave policy, and a regular RRSP contribution.
